The location tucked back next to Wells Fargo is a bit hard to find, and the space is a bit small, but Red Pepper offers some quite authentic Szechuan for when you don't feel like making the trek out to Morrisville.
Stopped in for dinner and had their appetizers of fried smelts and beef and tripe, both of which were large portions and delicious-the beef and tripe had excellent flavor (heavy on the Szechuan peppercorn so if you don't like that "numbing"/"ma" flavor don't get it-then again if you don't like that peppercorn maybe Szechuan food might not be the greatest choice for you?)
For entrees we got the grandma dumplings, twice-cooked pork, and beef he fen. (Don't judge-we had to get a few non-spicy options for the small children. Kids are such wimps when it comes to food that burns your face off...) I judge a Szechuan restaurant by their twice-cooked pork, and Red Pepper's was respectable-tender, flavorful, not shy on fat. Maybe a little on the sweet side if I'm being nitpicky (and who isn't on Yelp?!) but definitely delicious. Dumplings were tasty and he fen as well.
We've been meaning to try them for so long and I'm glad we finally did. They also have hot pot so that might be something to try now that it's not 100 degrees out every day. -

I work in Durham and ordered from Red Pepper via grub hub for lunch. This was the most disgusting meal I have ever received. The pork fried rice smelled awful. I could smell it before I untied the bag. I'm not sure if it was sour or what but the stench from the rice was so awful. I ordered the crispy Cornish hen. It was so shrunken hard and dry to the touch. It also had a smell that was very bad. I called grub hub back but they were unable to reach Red Pepper. Currently I'm out of 20 bucks for the meal and the delivery fee. I was also left hungry for lunch. I would not recommend this place at all.

Worst Chinese food I have ever had. I ordered the General Tsos chicken and it was brown. The spring rolls were mushy. Finally, my friend ordered the broccoli and chicken and the chicken tasted like fish. Honestly, I eat Chinese like once a week and this is the worst I have ever tried. Save your money and grab some mall Chinese food. It will be so much better.

Worst Chinese Food I've tasted. I ordered the General Tso chicken. Super dry, over cooked, salty, over priced for the amount, bad fried rice, the list goes on and on. The lady there who seemed to be the manager was very nice and pleasant. I was really hoping this would be a good place for Chinese food.

Do not dismiss this wonderful new "just like Mom made" Chinese restaurant because of its location or decor. The food is very tasty and while it automatically comes super spicy ( Sichuan style) you can specify that you want it toned down.
It is located near Staples on East Franklin Street and parking is plentiful.
There are specials on the board and the menu has many intriguing choices including some familiar to many such as moo shu beef. We have discovered some new favorites!
